Medicine of the
“The safe exploration of one’s own potential, healing trauma and (re)discovering one’s essence...”
An Ayahuasca ceremony can be seen as a shamanistic initiation into altered states of consciousness. With The Sacred Voyage methodology, you will learn how to conduct healing work in the physical and emotional layers of your own body. In contrast to the so-called “tripping out” (of your body).

Want to participate in an Ayahuasca ceremony?
We have been successfully working with various compositions of the healing thea Ayahuasca for more than thirteen years.
What can you expect?
Ayahuasca is one of the oldest known healing methods. The first reference to the use of the transformational thea takes us back in time more than five thousand years. The effects of the drink can be incredibly intense - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Users often experience an energetic cleansing and working through and resolving of traumatic experiences. People also often discover their own place in the world. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no incidents anywhere in the world working with Ayahuasca during its long history. Therefore, working with Ayahuasca is very safe, if done under the right circumstances (Faber, 2006).
Set and setting
The right mindset (expectation, intention, motivation, state of mind) and setting (circumstances in which Ayahuasca is drunk, guidance, ritual, music, and so on) largely determine the outcome of your experience. The Sacred Voyage provides a safe setting for your journey inwards. You can read extensively about set and setting in the free-to-download book, The Sacred Voyage. We ask you to read this book in preparation of a weekend and/or ceremony with us.
Research effects Ayahuasca
As the result of an (unpublished) study in our practice in 2008, we know that 75 percent of people drinking Ayahuasca in the setting of The Sacred Voyage consider it transformational. On top of this, the majority of people report positive and lasting effects. In this study, the role of the preparation was considered highly important by the participants, as well as the role of the guidance provided by The Sacred Voyage (8.9) and music (9.0).
An Ayahuasca ceremony is particularly effective for people who have already undergone a degree of personal development of their lives. People who are prepared to come face to face with both their light and shadow sides. Experience with, among other things, bodywork, meditation, mindfulness, focusing and other techniques in which attention is directed towards the inner processes for a long period is almost a condition to truly benefit from the Ayahuasca experience. In our practice’s approach and methodology, we additionally emphasise being able to focus on physical sensations, combined with shamanistic techniques. Additionally, it is desirable for you to “carry” your own process, and to be friendly and respect towards your own feelings and those of others.
An open mind, the capacity to keep your attention on your inner world for a prolonged period, a loving attitude towards yourself and others, and the need for a deep experience with the potential to transform are a few of the characteristics that people participating in our sessions share.
Guidance during your Sacred Voyage
Our care for you doesn’t end after a weekend or retreat. We remain available for you if you have questions concerning aspects that have opened up after a weekend or retreat. And if you want to explore matters more deeply or are confronted with areas that you feel unable to deal with, we also offer individual coaching sessions. For this, we have two coaches from our team - Joannie van Rijswijk and Nienke Kanngiesser - available who can guide you in this.

Ken Wilber about Ayahuasca
Ayahuasca has been traditionally used for healing and divination in shamanistic traditions. Shamans explain that Ayahuasca has the potential to help you (re)discover your essence; a process which is transformational for both your body and your mind. Over the years, we have been able to guide thousands of people in this special search for their essence, which many believe goes much further than the more common forms of therapy in the West.
For our healing weekends and retreats, we use a combination of Syrian Rue (Peganum Harmala) and Mimosa Hostilis. This variant of Ayahuasca is also called Jurema or Anahuasca. Over the years, in working with thousands of participants, we have experienced and discovered that this composition generates the best results for our work and participants within the setting of The Sacred Voyage. Within our shamanistic setting (Shamanic Warrior) and during the Magical Self Three-Day Retreat, we use Banesteriopsis Caapi and Mimosa, Caapi and Chachruna or Caapi and Chaliponga.
Contraindications for the use of Ayahuasca
The use of Ayahuasca cannot be combined with various forms of medication. Medicines such as antidepressants, beta blockers and blood-pressure reducers are contraindications, because Ayahuasca contains a MAO inhibitor that does not combine with these medicines. When in doubt, we always ask you to consult your attending physician. Psychiatric indications, such as borderline, schizophrenia and (a disposition towards) psychosis are also contraindications. People being treated (not of their own initiative) by a psychologist or psychiatrist must first discuss their desire to participate in an Ayahuasca ceremony with their attending psychologist or psychiatrist and provide a written statement of advice prior to participating in a ceremony.
Medical indications, such as heart disease and high blood pressure, are contraindications for the use of Ayahuasca.
Pregnancy and lactation are also contraindications for the use of Ayahuasca.
